Yuki Onodera
Born in Tokyo in 1962, Yuki Onodera established a studio in Paris in 1993 and began working internationally. Her experimental work challenges the traditional notion of photography and raises questions about what photography is and what can be achieved through it.
Onodera employs a wide range of techniques to realize her works, from capturing images with a marble inside her camera to embarking on travels to shoot stories based on legends. She is renowned for her unconventional hands-on methods, such as creating two-meter-high prints in the darkroom and painting on her photographs.
Her work is featured in collections worldwide, including those of the Centre Georges Pompidou, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The J. Paul Getty Museum, Shanghai Art Museum, and The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography.
Onodera's solo exhibitions have been held at prestigious institutions such as The National Museum of Art in Osaka (2005), Shanghai Art Museum (2006), The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography (2010), The Museum of Photography in Seoul (2010), and Musée Nicéphore Niépce in France (2011).
