Ye Linghan

After graduating from the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou with a degree in traditional mural painting and drawing in 2009, Ye Linghan was drawn to animation. In 2008, he combined a digitally processed photograph and watercolour animation to create the video Last Experimental Flying Object, featuring whales, airships, and submarines floating across an abandoned factory in a surreal intrusion between worlds.

Even in his video animations, Ye Linghan's academic training in painting and drawing is evident, which also translates into his works on paper and canvas.

Ye Linghan works across a range of media, including video, animation, installation, drawing, and painting, creating surreal, narrative-less universes populated by neon fauna and primitive faceless figures. His seminal works explore the impact of virtual reality and the internet and envision a near-future reality defined by artificial intelligence.
