Yuan Yuan
Yuan Yuan, a contemporary artist born in Zhejiang in 1973, is gaining recognition in the international art world for his exceptional paintings of architectural subjects. Currently, he divides his time between Hangzhou and Berlin.
Yuan Yuan earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees from the Oil Painting Department of the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, where he also studied traditional Chinese painting as a secondary school student.
Yuan Yuan's artworks predominantly depict interiors, including grand halls with neo-classical arches and balconies, as well as modest entrances and corridors of old apartment buildings. While based on real locations, his paintings incorporate imaginary elements that allow him to express his unique design perspective.
Also Yuan Yuan's artworks are characterized by a highly structured and orderly composition, which is determined by the geometric details of the architectural subjects he portrays. Whether depicting an entire room or a specific detail of a building, such as a row of doors, a horizontal view of one floor of an apartment block, or a Gothic stained glass window, he remains faithful to the underlying geometry of the subject matter.
