Yousha Bashir
Yousha Bashir (b. 1989) is an artist based in Tehran, Iran, with a BFA in visual arts from Farhangian University. His artistic practice spans across various mediums, including painting, sculpture, installations, and site-specific works. Bashir's works often bridge the gap between abstraction and figuration, and revolve around the concepts of deconstruction, duality, and suspension.
One of the recurring themes in Bashir's works is the exploration of the self and its detachment from reality. His works frequently feature figures, including self-portraits, and utopian or dystopian abstract landscapes. Bashir's creative process is often informed by his previous works, as he revisits and repurposes his earlier ideas and explorations in new ways.
In his recent works, Bashir continues his focus on abstract landscapes, now framed within larger landscapes, which challenges the idea of the painting's solid framework. These works investigate the relationship between the digital realm and the physical painting itself, as Bashir examines how images are translated from the digital realm to the canvas and vice versa.
