Inga Meldere's artistic journey commenced with her studies at the University of Latvia and the Art Academy of Latvia, where she established the foundation for her creative expression. Her pursuit of artistic growth took her to the prestigious Jan Van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, where she worked as a researcher between 2013 and 2014.
She further refined her skills, culminating in her graduation from the Painting MA program at the University of the Arts in Helsinki in 2021.
Inga Meldere's Art Style and Recent Exhibitions
Inga Meldere characterizes her works as focused on art practices and painting methods. Her paintings, installations, and prints result from meticulous engagement with source materials, weaving together personal and collective memories, art historical references, and everyday imagery. Intrigued by what she calls "the mood of a painting," Meldere meticulously incorporates these fragments into her works, following their direction with care and precision until they converge on a central focal point.
Inga Meldere's recent exhibitions have garnered critical acclaim and solidified her position in the contemporary art world. Her solo show, "Bluetooth (Sister N.)," at Temnikova & Kasela in Tallinn in 2022, is a testament to her evolving artistry. In 2019, "Hidden matter," a collaborative effort with Mikko Hintz, took center stage at Helsinki Contemporary, leaving a profound impact on its viewers. Her ability to engage with and reinterpret the art world is further evident in exhibitions such as "Twofold," alongside Atis Ievinš, at the Latvian National Museum of Art in Riga in 2017, and "Vertex" at SIC in Helsinki in the same year.
