T.J. Wilcox was born in Seattle, Washington in 1965 and currently resides in New York City. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 1989 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California in 1995.
Wilcox's artistic practice involves the creation of photographs and films using a unique collage technique. This approach intentionally incorporates visual distortions and imperfections into his work.

Additionally, his films have been screened at renowned venues including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Modern in London.
