Tanja Widmann
Vienna-based artist and writer, Tanja Widmann, was born in Villach, Austria, in 1966. Her work focuses on the biopolitical implications of networked life and their effects on society. Through the use of objects, scripts, and videos, Widmann creates immersive installations that encourage the viewer to question the societal impact of technology. She employs remixes and edits to deconstruct the traditional concept of artwork, challenging the notion of economic and symbolic value production.
She has participated in a number of prominent group exhibitions. In 2020, her work was featured in "Cybernetics of the Poor" at Kunsthalle Wien in Vienna, Austria. In 2019, her work was included in "Marabu" at Badischer Kunstverein in Karlsruhe, Germany. In 2016, she participated in "Putting Rehearsals to the Test" at VOX in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and in 2015, her work was featured in "Tomorrow Today" at LAYR Vienna in Vienna, Austria. Widmann's work was also exhibited in "I multiplied myself to feel myself" at Kunstraum Niederoesterreich and "Sigmund Freud: Play on the Burden of Representation" at Lower Belvedere, both in Vienna, Austria, in 2014. In 2010, Widmann's art was included in "Manifesta 8" at the Manifesta Foundation in Murcia, Spain. Her work has been showcased at several prestigious galleries and museums, such as Kunsthalle Wien and Museumsquartier.
