Carla Grunauer

Carla Grunauer is an artist from Tucumán, Argentina, born in 1982. She creates drawings and paintings that feature figurations in free association with mental spaces, where architectural forms, abstractions, and icons coexist. Her work is interested in exploring the combination of traditional techniques with contemporary technology materials, and she develops her own execution techniques as a fundamental part of her project.

Grunauer's most recent series reflect on the body, anomaly, and desire as possible forms of self-perception, and her work draws on a narrative of fantastic beings and liminal forms in a germinal state, in connection with the historical animal/witch relationship.

She has a degree in Visual Arts from the National University of Tucumán, and has received various scholarships and awards, including the Amigo del Interior scholarship in 2015, the Systematic Study of Drawing workshop scholarship at the University Torcuato Di Tella in 2015, and the National Endowment for the Arts scholarship to work clinic with Rafael Cippolini in 2013.

Grunauer has exhibited her work in individual and collective shows in galleries and museums in Argentina, Peru, and Spain, including Crisis Galería, Vigil Gonzales Galería, and the Modern art Museum of Buenos Aires. She has also co-directed the activities, workshops, and exhibitions at El Rancho, a contemporary art space in San Miguel de Tucumán, from 2010 to 2013.
