Born in Basel in 1964, Serge Hasenböhler is an artist whose lens captures the intricate dance of life. As a freelance photographer since 1988, Hasenböhler's work reflects a dynamic interplay between his early training, artistic collaborations, and a deep connection to the Basel art scene.
Serge Hasenböhler's artistic foundation took root during his training and work as a cinema operator from 1983 to 1986. In 1986, he embarked on a transformative journey with a Vorkurs at the Kunstgewerbeschule Basel, followed by the Basiserweiterungsklasse Zeit und Bewegung at the same institution in 1987. Simultaneously, from 1986 to 1991, he underwent photographic education and collaborated with Georg Freuler, a significant influence on his formative years.
The art world took notice of Hasenböhler's distinctive voice, earning him a Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt stipend in 1992 and a subsequent one in 1997. In 2004, he was awarded the Kulturföörderpreis by the Alexander Clavel Stiftung in Riehen, cementing his standing as a noteworthy figure in the Basel art scene.
