Biography of Ursula Mumenthaler
Born in Staffelbach, Aargau, in 1955, Ursula Mumenthaler is an artist whose work speaks the language of space and form. Residing and working in Geneva, her artistic journey unfolds as a series of explorations, residencies, and solo exhibitions that traverse the boundaries of visual expression.
Ursula Mumenthaler's artistic path began with formal education at the Höhere Schule für Gestaltung in Basel from 1974 to 1976. Continuing her studies, she enrolled at the Ecole supérieure d’art visuel in Geneva from 1977 to 1981, laying the foundation for her exploration of visual language and expression.
Mumenthaler's dedication and talent were recognized early in her career, with the Bourse Berthoud in Geneva in 1983 and 1984. The Aargauer Kuratorium awarded her a Förderungsbeitrag in 1985 and a Werkbeitrag in 1986. The Federal Art Scholarship and a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in 1987 further enriched her artistic journey.
Her exploration continued with a Federal Art Scholarship in Basel in 1991 and a residency at the Istituto Svizzero di Roma from 1991 to 1992. In 2003, the Prix de la Fondation Irène Reymond crowned her achievements.
