Raoul De Keyser
Raoul De Keyser was a Belgian painter known for his abstract compositions and muted color palette. Born in 1930 in Deinze, Belgium, De Keyser studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent before embarking on a prolific career as a painter.
De Keyser's work is characterized by its simplicity and minimalism. He often used basic geometric shapes and subtle tonal variations to create abstract compositions that were both quiet and powerful. His work is influenced by the New York School of abstract expressionism and the European tradition of minimalism, but he developed a style that was uniquely his own.
De Keyser exhibited his work extensively throughout his career, both in Belgium and internationally. The artist's work has been prominently featured in numerous group exhibitions around the world, including Documenta IX in Kassel, Germany (1992), and the 52nd Venice Biennale (2007). In 2018, a major retrospective of the artist's work opened at the Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst (S.M.A.K.) in Ghent, showcasing their career and artistic evolution. The retrospective subsequently traveled to the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich in 2019.
Raoul De Keyser passed away in 2012 at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy of understated but powerful abstract paintings that continue to inspire and captivate viewers today.
