Rebecca Morris
Rebecca Morris is an American abstract painter known for her energetic and boundary-pushing compositions. Born in Hawaii in 1969, Morris has exhibited her work globally and has been awarded the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship in 2018. She currently teaches painting at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Rebecca Morris is primarily known for her abstract paintings that challenge traditional boundaries of painting through the use of vibrant color, gestural brushstrokes, and intricate layering. Her works often blur the lines between abstraction and representation, creating a dynamic visual language that engages the viewer in new ways.
She had numerous exhibitions of her work throughout her career. Some of her main exhibitions include the Whitney Biennial, New York (2014), and Made in L.A., Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2016) as well as the Wexner Center for the Arts (2018). In 2019, Rebecca Morris's works were featured in a major solo exhibition at the Blaffer Museum of Art in Houston, further solidifying her reputation as an important contemporary abstract painter.
