Peter Fend
Peter Fend is an American conceptual artist whose work focuses on environmental and political issues. He was born on August 25, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and later received his MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. Fend's career has taken him around the world, with residencies and exhibitions in places such as New York, Berlin, Tokyo, and Beijing.
He is known for his interdisciplinary approach, which includes collaborations with scientists, economists, and politicians. Fend's art seeks to raise awareness about global issues such as climate change and overpopulation, while also proposing solutions through his projects, such as using technology to create self-sustaining habitats in extreme environments.
Fend's art has been exhibited worldwide, including at Documenta IX in Kassel, Germany (1992), the 45th Venice Biennale (1999); the 47th Venice Biennale (2003); the Liverpool Biennial (2003); and the 8th Sharjah Biennial (2007). In 2006, Fend was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in Fine Arts for his contributions to contemporary art.
