Radamés "Juni" Figueroa
Radamés “Juni” Figueroa is a Puerto Rican artist who was born in 1982 in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. He obtained his BFA in Painting from the Escuela de Artes Plásticas in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2007. Figueroa has gained recognition for his diverse body of work that includes painting, sculpture, video, installation, and performance art.
Figueroa has exhibited his work internationally in notable solo and group exhibitions at institutions such as the University Museum of Albany, SculptureCenter, and The Whitney Biennial. He was awarded the Artissima’s illy Present Future Prize in 2020, which grants him a solo exhibition at the Castello di Rivoli in Turin in 2021.
His work often draws from popular culture, using imagery and references from cartoons, comics, video games, and other aspects of pop culture to explore themes of identity, politics, and society. He is known for his playful and irreverent approach to art-making, which often involves humor and satire.
Figueroa has also been involved in curatorial projects, co-curating the 1ra Gran Bienal Tropical in Loíza, Puerto Rico in 2011. He is represented by Proyectos Ultravioleta in Guatemala City and Embajada in San Juan.
