Patrick Goddard

Patrick Goddard is a London-based artist whose satirical art and writing often center around themes of urban change, gentrification, and ecology. His practice frequently incorporates installation and immersive viewing environments for his films. In his exhibition "Real Estates," Goddard transformed deterrent paving into the unstable flooring of a scuzzy underground club, subverting the concept of "exclusionary architecture."

His most recent film commission, "Animal Antics," offers an absurdist commentary on the Anthropocene, set within a zoo. In "Humans-Animals-Monsters," Goddard presents a scene of carnage with casts of severed animal heads whose mirrored necks reflect the curious viewers.

Born in 1984 in London, Goddard studied at Goldsmiths, University of London, and the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford. "Animal Antics" was commissioned and produced by Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network (FLAMIN) and Film and Video Umbrella, with funding from Arts Council England. It was co-commissioned with Galerie für Gegenwartskunst, EWERK Freiburg, and Hayward Gallery Touring for British Art Show 9.
