Olivier Millagou

Olivier Millagou is a French artist born in Toulon in 1974, currently living and working in Sanary-sur-Mer. He is known for his multi-disciplinary approach to art, using various media including disk, installation, object, environment, wall drawing with drawing pins, Tippex, painting on postcards, and more. His work is inspired by American counter-cultures, surfing and skateboarding, Marvel Comics, rock, and independent films.

Millagou's art reflects a straightforward attitude and a relation to the California surfing world, with a precise knowledge of its cultural elements. His oeuvre is all-encompassing and seductive, with an immediate fascination for images, but also subtly presenting the relations of powers and domination at stake in certain "encounters" of civilizations. His work has been exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions in France and internationally, including Frieze London, and is held in the permanent collections of CNAP (Centre National des Arts Plastiques) and FRAC PACA (Fonds Régionaux d’Art Contemporain, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur).
