Gavin Perry

Gavin Perry is an American artist born in Philadelphia in 1971, currently living and working in Miami. He studied at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Pennsylvania. Perry's paintings are influenced by the style of the Californian finish fetish artists of the 1960s. He incorporates industrial materials out of their original context to create formal, colorful, and polished surfaces, which change the temporality of his paintings.

Perry's work revolves around the social opposition between decorative aesthetics and customized cars. His work has been exhibited at various renowned institutions, including the Contemporary Art Museum Houston (2013), Frost Art Museum in Miami (2012), and at the art shows in Basel and Miami Beach. In 2012, he was shortlisted for the first edition of the Jean-Francois Prat Prize and won the Chestler Foundation Award in Miami in 2001.

Gavin Perry is represented by Galerie Sultana in Paris and Barbara Davis Gallery in Houston.
