Michele Abeles
Michele Abeles is an American artist who was born in 1977 in New York City. She studied photography at the University of California, San Diego, and later earned her MFA from Yale University in 2007. Abeles is known for her eclectic and unconventional approach to photography, sculpture, and installation art.
Abeles' artwork often involves the use of found objects and images, as well as elements of advertising and consumer culture. She combines these elements in unexpected ways to create visual puzzles that challenge viewers to rethink their assumptions about the objects and images they encounter in everyday life. Some of her notable works include a series of photographs featuring abstracted and fragmented images of bodies and objects, as well as large-scale sculptures that incorporate found materials like cardboard, mirrors, and plastic.
Her work has been exhibited extensively in the United States and internationally, including at institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA PS1, and the Hammer Museum. In 2014, she was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for her contributions to contemporary art.
