Ma Haijiao
Ma Haijiao is a Chinese artist born in 1990 in Hebei province, China. He received his BA and MFA from the China Academy of Art, where he studied from 2009 to 2016. He currently lives and works in Beijing.
Ma's art practice focuses on the routines of daily life, and he uses this as a starting point for creating video narratives and other works. His recent solo exhibitions include "Happy Valley II" at Discoveries, in Hong Kong (2019), "Happy Valley" at Tabula Rasa Gallery in Beijing (2018), and "Message to the Future" at Canvas Contemporary Gallery in Amsterdam (2017). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including "Array: EACA 2019" at Gallery Baton in Seoul (2019), "SYMBIOSIS: The Intertextuality of Art and Poetry" at OCAT in Shengzhen (2019), "8102: On Reality" at OCAT in Shanghai, and "Today's Yesterday: The 1st Anren Biennale" in Anren, Chengdu (2017).
Ma has been recognized for his work with several awards and nominations, including being a finalist for the Huayu Youth Award in Art Sanya 2018, a finalist for the 10th Three Shadows Photography Award, and a nominee for the A021xPORSCHE Young Chinese Artist of the Year in 2017. His work has been collected by institutions such as the Smart Museum of Art in Chicago, the Power Station of Art in Shanghai, and the ZARYA Center for Contemporary Art in Vladivostok.
