Laure Prouvost's Art Style
Laure Prouvost's work spans video, sound, installation, and performance, all infused with language in its broadest interpretation. Renowned for her immersive and multi-media installations that blend film with installation in whimsical and distinctive ways, Prouvost explores themes of miscommunication and the loss of meaning in translation.
By manipulating language as a tool for imagination, she challenges conventional linear narratives and expected connections between words, images, and concepts. Prouvost intertwines real and imagined personal memories with artistic and literary allusions to craft intricate film installations that blur the boundaries between fiction and reality.
Her filmmaking technique is both captivating and unsettling, employing layered storytelling, rapid edits, montage, and wordplay, complemented by a diverse array of tactile imagery, sounds, spoken and written phrases. These videos are often presented within immersive environments incorporating found objects, sculptures, paintings, drawings, signage, furniture, and architectural elements, all contributing to the overarching narrative of the installation.
