About the Artwork Stanley Ekene Emecheta

Ekene Stanley Emecheta

Born in 1994, Ekene Stanley Emecheta is a self-taught artist, living and working in Lagos.

Emecheta's paintings speak to the complexity of identity and the various forces that shape it. His work challenges viewers to examine their own perceptions and beliefs and to consider the ways in which we are all shaped by the world around us. Through his distinctive use of color and composition, Emecheta invites us to explore the stories of his subjects and to see the world through their eyes.

His work was recently featured in the exhibition Black Voices: Friend of my Mind at Ross-Sutton gallery, New York, USA (2021). The Breeder Gallery presented for the first time Emecheta’s works at Fiac Online Viewing Room in March 2021 followed by Frieze NY Viewing Room in May.
