Ariana Papademetropoulos
Ariana Papademetropoulos is a contemporary artist based in Los Angeles, known for her dreamlike, surrealist paintings. Born in Los Angeles, California in 1990, she studied Fine Art at the California Institute of the Arts and later at the Universität der Künste in Berlin.
Papademetropoulos' work explores themes of identity, memory, and femininity through the use of fantastical imagery and unconventional materials. She often incorporates found objects, such as vintage fabrics and wallpaper, into her paintings, creating a layered and textured effect. Her use of a pastel color palette and gestural brushstrokes add to the dreamlike quality of her work. Her paintings often reference art history and traditional iconography from Medieval or Renaissance, which she reinterprets into her own narratives. Through hyperrealism and illusion, she creates surreal tableaux and portals to fantastical scenes.
Her works have been exhibited internationally, including in the US, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Greece. In addition to her solo work, Papademetropoulos also co-curated and participated in the group exhibition Veils at The Underground Museum in Los Angeles in 2014.
