J.G. Arvidsson's Art Style
J.G. Arvidsson's artistic practice predominantly revolves around the medium of painting. With a strong emphasis on capturing people and figures, the artist frequently portrays them in profiles or silhouettes. The artworks created by J.G. Arvidsson are designed to convey open-ended and multifaceted narratives.
His artwork is characterized by recurring motifs and elements that establish a referential and contextual framework for viewers. These elements serve as a lens through which we can explore our own subjective interpretations of the artworks.
Using various media such as paint, canvas, and oil stick, J.G. Arvidsson overlays them on pieces of found and upcycled wood. He applies materials in thick layers and scrapes them away in some places, exposing the layers, seams, and physical processes of the artwork. This deliberate exposure creates an expansive depth, both in terms of materiality and narrative, which can be experienced in a highly tactile and tangible manner.
Expansive themes centered around social issues and the complexities of the human condition take center stage in J.G. Arvidsson's work. Through his art, J.G. Arvidsson creates a space where viewers can engage with these profound ideas at their own pace and with the added layer of their own lives and ways of understanding.
