Julie Lænkholm's Art Style

Lænkholm's work is often textile in nature. She skillfully employs materials such as wool, silk, and denim, treating them with natural, plant-based dyes using historical methods. Each of them is carefully chosen, carrying its unique significance. The result is a remarkable combination of specificity and technical intricacy, giving rise to a tactile and three-dimensional feeling that emanates from the artworks.

Julie Lænkholm's artworks transport us into a realm of constant evolution, where things retain a sense of vitality long after they seem to be finished or in a final state. As viewers, we actively engage with the artwork, becoming participants who activate the work while simultaneously being activated by it.

Julie Lænkholm has been exploring site-specific performances, employing singing as her medium. She presented a unique performance piece at the Icelandic festival Listi Ljosi. In this work, the local fishermen of Seydisfjordur came together outside the community's gas station, where they gather every morning for coffee, to sing a heartfelt poem.
