Helen Cammock

Biography of Helen Cammock

Helen Cammock was born in 1970 in Staffordshire, England. Her childhood spanned London and Somerset. Cammock's father was a ceramicist and art teacher.

From 1989 to 1992, she pursued a BA in Sociology at the University of Sussex. Later, she continued her education, studying Photography at the University of Brighton from 2005 to 2008 and graduating with a BA. From 2009 to 2011, she pursued an MA in Photography at the Royal College of Art.

In 2017, the artist received the Max Mara Art Prize for Women. Following this, she traveled extensively, visiting various regions and cities in Italy, including Florence, Rome, Palermo, Bologna, Venice, and Reggio Emilia.

In 2019, Helen Cammock received the Turner Prize, and in 2023, she won the Paul Hamlyn Foundation’s Awards for Artists.

Cammock's artwork has been exhibited worldwide. Her recent solo exhibitions include "They Call It Idlewild" at Oakville Galleries in Ontario (2023), "behind the eye is the promise of rain" at Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover (2022), "Concrete Feathers and Porcelain Tacks" at The Photographers Gallery in London (2021), "I Decided I Want to Walk" at Kate MacGarry in London (2020), and many more.
