Cui Xinming
Cui Xinming is an up-and-coming Chinese artist who graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts and currently resides in Chongqing. Born in 1986, Xinming's expansive oil on canvas works reflect the complex thoughts and emotions of a younger Chinese generation living through constant change. His earlier series, 'Black Hole of Memories,' explored the artist's childhood and youth memories, presented in a monumental and panoramic composition. The series was a personal reflection of Xinming's introspection and desire to leave behind the past and embrace modernity.
In his most recent series, 'A Sleepwalker's World' and 'Journey to the East,' Xinming continues to address the challenges brought about by societal and personal changes, with each painting capturing his inner turmoil in a dramatic and subliminal way. These paintings also carry a real-world relevance, as each work is laced with a secondary meaning, ranging from political to religious commentary. Despite the series' mnemomic themes and literary qualities, Xinming's oeuvre retains a sense of hope and optimism, as he brings each narrative to a more hopeful twist.
Xinming's remarkable talent has earned him numerous accolades and recognition, including being selected for the prestigious 2015 'Luo Zhongli 10 Years Review Exhibition' at the Chongqing MOMA. He has held solo shows in Hong Kong and has been exhibited in several other locations, including Istanbul, Berlin, Beijing, and Chengdu. His work has been featured in various publications, including the South China Morning Post, Art Info, The Art Newspaper, Oriental Daily News, Flash/On, and Artron.
