Stuart Brisley
Born in 1933, Stuart Brisley is an artist from the UK who attended Guildford School of Art from 1949 to 1954 and the Royal College of Art from 1956 to 1959. He continued his studies at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich, Germany, in 1959-60, and at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, in the United States from 1960 to 1962.
Brisley participated in the occupation of Hornsey College of Art by staff and students, also known as the "Hornsey sit-in," in 1968. During the 1960s and 1970s, he became known as a performance artist who was influenced by Marxist political ideas and often employed extended durations in his performances. In the 1980s, he shifted his focus to sculpture and installation art.
Following a lengthy academic career, Brisley is now a Professor Emeritus at the Slade School of Fine Art.
