Pieter Schoolwerth
Pieter Schoolwerth (b. 1970) is an American artist known for his interdisciplinary practice that spans painting, performance, video, and installation. He was born in St. Louis and received his BFA from California Institute of the Arts in 1992.
Schoolwerth’s work often explores the intersection between digital and analog image-making, as well as the relationship between humans and machines. He is particularly interested in how technology has transformed the way we perceive the world and the self. His paintings, which often incorporate computer-generated imagery, are complex, layered compositions that challenge conventional notions of depth, space, and perspective.
His work has been exhibited internationally in solo and group exhibitions at Stavanger Art Museum, Norway (2023); Petzel Gallery, New York (2022); Petzel Gallery, New York (2022, solo); Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler, Berlin (2022, solo); Kunstverein Hannover (2021, solo); Petzel Gallery, New York (2020, solo); Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler, Berlin (2019, solo) and the Hessel Museum of Art, Annandale-on-Hudson (2018), among others.
