Loretta Fahrenholz was born in 1981 in Starnberg, Germany. Her journey in visual arts began at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, Germany, where she graduated in 2007, laying the foundation for her future artistic endeavors.
Fahrenholz has carved a niche for herself through her captivating filmic creations, which she aptly dubs "performative documentaries." These films seamlessly blend genres, a testament to her innovative approach to storytelling. Collaborating frequently with actors, her work delves into the contradictions found in various social milieus, everyday habits, and the tapestry of contemporary urban life.
One of her renowned works is the video "Ditch Plains" (2013), showcasing the East New York dance ensemble, The Ringmasters Crew, as they perform amidst the post-apocalyptic backdrop of Brooklyn in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Fahrenholz's artistic journey reached a milestone with her first institutional solo exhibition, "3 Frauen," hosted at the Kunsthalle Zürich in 2015. This showcase featured her renowned experimental videos 'Ditch Plains' (2013) and 'Implosion' (2011), a film adapting poet Kathy Acker's play.
