Biography of Jutta Koether
Jutta Koether was born in Cologne in 1958. She pursued studies in art and philosophy at the University of Cologne and the Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
In 1980, Koether became part of the editorial team at Spex, a music and art journal. Her prolific writing has graced the pages of publications like Eau de Cologne, Artforum, Texte zur Kunst, and Flash Art. Notably, her book "f." (1987) was translated into English and republished by Sternberg Press in 2015, solidifying her literary contributions.
Since 2010, Koether has held the position of Professor for Painting and Drawing at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg. Her impact on art education spans various institutions, with visiting professorships and lectureships at Berlin University of the Arts, Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Cooper Union School of Art in New York, Columbia University in New York, School of Visual Arts in New York, Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, and Yale University in New Haven.
