Jannis Varelas

Jannis Varelas is a contemporary Greek artist who lives and works between Los Angeles, Vienna and Athens. He is known for his vibrant and eclectic paintings and his highly physical, expressive technique.

Varelas is a graduate of the Royal College of Art in London (MFA) and the Athens School of Fine Arts (BA). He often incorporates into his works a wide range of materials, including paint, ink, and found objects, to create layered and textured compositions that invite viewers to explore his rich and complex visual language that resembles automatic painting or children’s drawings.

His work has been exhibited widely around the world at venues such as the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, London’s Saatchi Gallery, and the Kunsthalle Wien.
