Kris Lemsalu's Art Style
With a background in ceramics, Lemsalu frequently engages in inventive explorations of traditional techniques to craft complex and multilayered works. Her orchestrated installations seamlessly meld fragile porcelain sculptures, featuring animal and human body parts or clothing items, with foraged natural materials such as fur, leather, or wool. These installations serve as self-sufficient narratives, or as a backdrop for Lemsalu's performances, where the sculptures occasionally transform into integral components of her costumes and props.
In recent works, Kris Lemsalu has ventured into the realm of collaborative art by partnering with musicians, adding a layer to her performances. For instance, "Going, going," with Kyp Malone, was featured in the Performa 17 Biennial in New York. She also participated in a performance with Glasser during the DRAF performance night at KOKO in London.
