Biography of Hwang Seung Woo
Hwang Seung Woo was born in 1960 in South Korea. He studied Sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, Italy, graduating in 1999.
His distinctive and easily identifiable style is evident in numerous notable public commissions across the globe, including those in Bahrain (National Museum), Damascus (Syrian National Library), Korea, Australia, Norway, Spain, and the UAE (Burj Dubai).
Since 1997, he has been actively participating in symposia, starting with his inaugural one in Italy. These events provided him with invaluable opportunities to engage with fellow artists and immerse himself in diverse cultures. Through these experiences, he developed a profound understanding of the fundamental elements of expression, emotion, and human interaction.
During his illustrious career, Hwang Seung Woo has received numerous awards and accolades, including the 1st Prize at Teulada International Sculpture Symposium (Italy, 1997), the 2nd Prize at Israel International Sculpture Symposium (Israel, 1999), the Ouistreham International Sculpture Biennale Gold Award (2011), the Excellence Award at the 1st International Sculpture Exhibition in Fuzhou (2015), among others.
Hwang Seung Woo's solo exhibitions have been held at various venues worldwide, including Trinity Gallery, Giotta Gallery, Lord Hall at the University of Maine, Gala Gallery, ArraArte, Covalenco Gallery, and many more. The artist has also participated in group exhibitions, including "Continuity of change" at JJ JoongJung Gallery in Seoul (2023), "Art Mining-Seoul: Four Emotions of Contemporary Art" at DDP in Seoul (2018), Bulgaria Sofia Biennale (2013), Chinese Abstract Sculpture Exhibition in Xian (2012), among others.
