Hannelore Van Dijck's Art Style
Hannelore Van Dijck creates intricate and textured drawings that frequently cover entire surfaces — walls, floors, sheets of paper, or textiles. When she delves into drawing, she scrutinizes the exterior layer of objects and materials to uncover their tactile qualities, the underlying structures that determine light reflection, and the spatial nature of the surface. She explores the interplay between intricate details and the larger whole within silenced compositions.
Within her charcoal drawings, Hannelore Van Dijck immerses herself in exploring surfaces. The profound black of charcoal exudes delicacy and fragility. The transient nature of the drawing reveals the poetic aspects of this delicate medium. By forgoing preservation, the drawing becomes infused with ultimate vulnerability.
Van Dijck tries to create a new type of space through drawings that occupy the entire space, thereby offering a fresh interpretation of the site's original architecture. The image assimilates the inherent qualities of the existing environment. Van Dijck uses this to generate something novel—a space within a space with its own distinct experience.
