Gilles Bensimon was born in 1944 in Vic-sur-Cère, France. Following his education at art school, Bensimon took a significant step in his journey by serving in the army. Upon completing his military service, he went on to work for fashion magazines in France.

Gilles Bensimon embarked on his career in Paris, where he joined the esteemed French Elle magazine in 1967. Two years later, in 1969, he played a pivotal role in the launch of an American version of Elle as an International Creative Director. During his tenure, Bensimon became a celebrated portrait photographer and worked with some of the most iconic models of our time, including Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell.
