Beaux Mendes
Beaux Mendes is a contemporary artist born in New York City in 1987, who currently lives and works in Los Angeles. Mendes earned an MFA from both the University of California, Los Angeles and Bard Milton Avery Graduate School of Arts. Their artwork involves a diverse range of materials and techniques, including painting, drawing, and printmaking.
Mendes' paintings often blend materials and direct observation with abstract overlays and apparitional figures. The artist treats painting as a medium in transition, with an emphasis on revealing the physical qualities of the support used. Mendes' practice involves rituals of passage and pilgrimage, inviting estrangement and altered states of experience resulting from repeated trips to remote and obscure painting sites.
Mendes' work has been featured in numerous group shows at galleries including STARS, Real Pain Fine Arts, The Gallery at Michael’s, and Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects, among others. The artist's first one-person exhibition, "Willow Staging Area," was held at STARS, Los Angeles in 2021.
