Anouk De Clercq was born in Ghent, Belgium, in 1971. She pursued her education at the Ghent Music School, where she focused on music theory and piano. Later, she furthered her studies in film at the L’école des Beaux-Arts Saint-Lucas in Brussels. 

At the core of her artistic exploration is the idea of pushing the boundaries of audiovisual language to construct possible worlds. Interested in what is beyond the surface of reality, she tries to uncover the hidden between the visible and the imaginary. Her recent work has been based on the utopian concept of "radical empathy". De Clercq also collaborates extensively with artists from diverse fields, including musicians, choreographers, writers, architects, fashion designers, and designers.

Anouk De Clercq's works have earned international recognition through exhibitions at esteemed institutions such as Tate Modern in London, Centre Pompidou in Paris, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, MAXXI in Rome, Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève, and BOZAR in Brussels.
