Navid Nuur's Art Style
Nuur delves into the fundamental questions of perception through his work. He has a unique ability to visualize the invisible and raise awareness of the small and often overlooked elements and processes in the world. The artist's approach to the material, space around him, and his observations can be seen as nearly devout. His attention to detail and precise calibration of various aspects of his works and exhibitions make the audience part of his "inner" world.
In a manner reminiscent of conceptual artists from the sixties, Nuur establishes a connection between concept and form. However, he diverges from the traditional approach in that form is not merely a result of the idea. Instead, it materializes through a subjective program of requirements or rules wherein intuition takes precedence. Nuur employs concepts that often relate to temporary in-between states, positioning his work between the audience and abstract phenomena like light, energy, air, or "rest space." Nuur's form language and meaning are primarily centered around the process itself.
Navid Nuur works in various mediums, including drawing, text, and installation. His creations stem from phenomenological encounters. He frequently endows discovered objects with transformative qualities, thus reshaping their purpose, significance, and influence to offer viewers an entirely new experience. While often adopting a sculptural form, Nuur's pieces evade easy classification as either sculptures or installations. Instead, he refers to them as "interimodules."
