Alex Carver
Alexander Carver is an American artist who works across multiple mediums, including painting, film, and video art. He is known for his intricate and thought-provoking works that explore the intersection of various cultural and historical influences. Born in Boise, Idaho in 1984, Carver received his BFA from Cooper Union and his MFA from Columbia University. He currently lives and works in New York and Boise.
Carver's paintings are densely layered, incorporating machine stenciled screens, frottage, and brushwork to create complex compositions that contain appropriated text, historical artifacts, and natural detritus. He often combines scientific precision with fantastical imagery, resulting in works that are both aesthetically captivating and intellectually stimulating.
Alexander Carver’s work has been exhibited and screened in international venues and in festivals including Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler, Berlin (2023); Stavanger Art Museum (2023); the Art Encounters Biennial, Romania (2021); Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler, Berlin (2021); Helena Anrather, New York (2021); Miguel Abreu Gallery, New York (2019) and Tate Modern (2018), among others.
