Biography of Viola Leddi

Born in the vibrant city of Milan in 1993, Viola Leddi is a contemporary artist whose work transcends borders, reflecting a dynamic blend of artistic influences from across Europe. Currently, the artist divides her time between Milan, Italy, and Geneva, Switzerland.

Viola's artistic journey has been marked by a dedication to honing her craft and expanding her creative horizons through education. She is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at HEAD - Genève, where she continues to delve into the complexities of contemporary artistic practices. From 2012 to 2016, she studied at Brera Academy in Milan, obtaining a BFA. Earlier, Viola's thirst for artistic exploration took her to Copenhagen, Denmark, where she participated in the Erasmus program at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (2014 - 2015). 

Viola Leddi's Art Style

Leddi's artistic practice is deeply rooted in exploration and curiosity. Her imaginative and figurative paintings are the result of a painstaking and intricate creative process. She initiates her work with initial sketches on paper, which are subsequently transferred to Photoshop, where she explores a diverse range of color palettes. From there, Leddi employs an airbrush technique to meticulously breathe life into the intricately detailed compositions on canvas.

Leddi's visual language serves as a bridge between reality and fantasy, constructing compositions that playfully explore the realms of collective and personal memories. A touch of architectural modernism can be discerned in her ceramic sculpture series, "First Times." In this series, she forsakes ornamentation in favor of asymmetric compositions and geometric forms.

Viola Leddi's Recent Exhibitions

Viola Leddi's solo exhibitions are a testament to her unique artistic vision. They have included shows at Pace Gallery and FRAC Champagne-Ardenne (FR). Furthermore, her solo exhibitions encompass "Strategies for Invisibility" at VIN VIN in Naples (2022) and "Creature Adorabili (Lovable Creatures)" at the TILE project space in Milan (2019).

Viola Leddi's participation in group exhibitions demonstrates her ability to connect with fellow artists and engage in broader artistic dialogues. Some notable group shows include "Degree Show" at HEAD in Genève (2022), "Madrigale" at VIN VIN Vienna (2022), and "Casa Flash Art Market," curated by Gea Politi, at Banner in Milan (2021).
