Victoria Morton
Victoria Morton is a contemporary artist born in Glasgow, UK in 1971. She is best known for her abstract paintings that incorporate a unique blend of colors, textures, and brushstrokes.
Morton received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Glasgow School of Art in 1993 and her Master of Fine Arts in 1995. Following her studies, she began exhibiting her work internationally, quickly gaining recognition for her innovative approach to painting.
Her paintings often feature large areas of flat color, combined with gestural marks, patterns, and textures. She is known for her experimental use of unconventional materials such as glitter, metallic paint, and even household paint to create unexpected results.
Morton has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group shows across the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, and the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. She has also been shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 2004, and in 2010, she was awarded the John Moores Painting Prize.
Today, Morton continues to produce art that challenges traditional notions of painting and abstraction. Her work is held in many prestigious collections, including the Tate Modern, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Guggenheim Museum.
