Biography of Tomio Seike
Tomio Seike was born in 1943 in Tokyo, Japan. Following graduation from The Japanese Photographic Academy in 1970, Tomio Seike embarked on his photographic journey. Initially, he honed his skills and gained invaluable experience as an assistant photographer for four years.
Seike then went on to work freelance, specializing in fashion and portraiture. However, an adventurous spirit led him to relocate to England, where he further expanded his artistic horizons. Seike eventually returned to his native country, Japan.
Seike is primarily known for his hand-printed black-and-white photographs, although he also created landscapes in color.
Seike's artistic recognition initially blossomed through his evocative portraits of a then-little-known American artist whom he calls only Zoe. These intimate and compelling photographs were captured during their five-year journey together from 1982 to 1987.
