Tam Van Tran
Tam Van Tran's artistic repertoire encompasses a wide array of materials including clay, paper, chlorophyll, glass, algae, staples, crushed eggshells, beet juice, gelatin, and various other ingredients. Biography of Tam Van Tran
Tam Van Tran was born in 1966 in Kontum, Vietnam. He studied at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, receiving a BFA in Painting in 1990. Later, he enrolled in the Graduate Film and Television Program at the University of California, Los Angeles, completing his studies and graduating in 1996.
Throughout his career, Van Tran has received various awards, grants, and fellowships, including:
- Creative Fellowship in the Visual Arts, Colorado Council on the Arts and Humanities (1991);
- Ucross Artists Residency, Ucross (1993);
- Pollock Krasner Fellowship (2001);
- Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant for Painting (2001);
- California Community Foundation Fellowship (2008).
These accolades highlight Tam Van Tran's significant contributions and recognition in the art world.
His notable solo exhibitions include "Primordial Sounds of the Avatar" at Vielmetter Los Angeles in Los Angeles (2024), "Black Melong" at Ameringer | McEnery | Yohe in New York (2017), "Aikido Dream" at MCA Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara (2015), "Survival Skills" at Anthony Meier Fine Arts in San Francisco (2014), and many more.
