Stephanie Temma Hier
Stephanie Temma Hier is a Canadian artist based in Brooklyn, New York, known for her figurative paintings and ceramic sculptures. Her works often feature scenes of fruit and other consumables within hand-built ceramic sculptures. Hier finds inspiration in found imagery and digital ephemera, which she translates into slow, hand-wrought processes and earthly materials. By juxtaposing her paintings with their sculptural pairings, Hier creates new narratives that blend art historical references and pop-cultural elements. Her work challenges the notion of images, contexts, and frameworks existing in a vacuum.
Hier holds a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design University and has studied at the Academy of Art Canada in Toronto. Her recent solo exhibitions have been held at Gallery Vacancy (Shanghai), David Dale (Glasgow), Franz Kaka (Toronto), Y2K Group (New York), Downs and Ross (New York), and Neochrome Gallery (Turin). She has also participated in numerous group shows at venues such as Nino Mier Gallery (Los Angeles & Brussels), The Kitchen (New York), The Power Plant (Toronto), and the Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto).
