Sebastian Jefford
Sebastian Jefford, born in Swansea, Wales in 1990, is a contemporary artist who currently resides and works in Berlin. He utilizes a variety of mediums, including objects, images, video, and writing, often blending them together to create a sense of ambiguity. Jefford's work centers around the idea of reconstruction and reenactment, which he sees as a way to create a tenuous means of escaping the present. Rather than simply seeking knowledge and familiarity with the past, he is intrigued by the potential for fiction, misinterpretation, and misdirection that comes with these processes. His work frequently fictionalizes actions, makes desire literal, and turns physicality into a plasticized version of itself, creating a seductive but moldy veneer that overtakes the "world."
Jefford has participated in a number of recent and upcoming exhibitions, including the 15th Lyon Biennale (2019), V22 Young London in Autumn 2018, Procrustean Flatulence at Gianni Manhattan (2018), The Sleeping Procession at CASS Sculpture Foundation, the RA Schools Degree Show at Royal Academy of Arts in London (2017), and A Rose Is Without a 'Why'. It Blooms Because It Blooms, curated by Sean Steadman, Carl Freedman, London, among others. He has exhibited at Gianni Manhattan, including at Frieze 2021, Liste 2019, Paris Internationale 2018, viennacontemporary 2018, and Procrustean Flatulence.
