Ping's Art Style
Ping's artistic style is characterized by her adept use of symbolism, metaphor, and subtle humor. She intricately weaves these elements into her creations, often incorporating hybrid interplays of 2D and 3D elements. Through her work, she challenges the boundaries of representation and seeks to materialize abstract thoughts. Inspired by her background in accounting and finance, Ping examines how precise numbers shape perceptions and transform ambiguous situations into concrete realities.
In the work "Dogged" (2023) from her latest series, Ping explores the symbolism of the black dog, delving into its multifaceted layers of meaning. The black dog serves as a metaphor for depression, a concept introduced to her through a pamphlet at a doctor's clinic. Additionally, it represents the actual living companion that greets her at home, as well as the artistic process itself - each black "dog" taking weeks to shape, teaching her patience. Each iteration of the black dog adds to the complexity, rather than providing clarity, allowing Ping to attach yet another layer of meaning to the symbol - as a representation of the elusive "self," which remains enigmatic.
