Nick Oberthaler

Nick Oberthaler was born in 1981 in Bad Ischl, Austria. His artworks are characterised by a clear, geometric visual language dominated by strong, artificial colours that create a technological quality. He works with a range of media, including photographs and photocopies, which he reworks in various ways, leaving the viewer to decide upon their own interpretation. Despite using a range of materials, Oberthaler refers to his works simply as 'drawings'. Paper remains his preferred medium, due to its delicate texture, which reveals every artistic trace, enabling him to work in a nuanced, subtle way. He often combines materials that do not blend, creating unexpected textures and tensions.
