Naoya Hatakeyama

Naoya Hatakeyama was born in 1958 in Iwate Prefecture, Japan. He studied under Kiyoji Otsuji and completed his graduate studies at Tsukuba University in 1984. Since then, he has been based in Tokyo, where he has developed a body of work focused on the relationship between nature, the city, and photography.

Hatakeyama's photographs have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions and are held in public collections, including the National Museum of Modern Art in Osaka and Tokyo, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, the Swiss Foundation for Photography in Winterthur, la Maison EuropEéenne de la Photographie in Paris, and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
