Manoela Medeiros' Art Style

Medeiros adopts a hybrid approach to the pictorial, questioning artistic media by surpassing their traditional boundaries. Through her paintings and in situ installations, she delves into the interplay between space, time, and the corporeal presence of both art and the viewer.

She often executes direct interventions within exhibition spaces, crafting artworks that arise from the unique characteristics of the surrounding environment, encompassing material, structural, and lighting elements. Through this approach, her practice imbues space with a sense of organicity, transforming architecture into a living entity intimately connected to the art experience.

Employing an almost archaeological approach, Medeiros explores the concept of ruins as a visual marker of the passage of time, embarking on a process that exposes what typically lies beneath the surface. The artist meticulously scrapes away at surfaces, including the walls of exhibition spaces, unveiling the layers of colors and materials that have been applied, concealed, and subsequently forgotten over time.
