Ketuta Alexi-Meskhishvili
Ketuta Alexi-Meskhishvili is a Georgian-American photographer who is based in Berlin. She was born in Tbilisi in 1979 and studied at Bard College in Annandale, New York, under the guidance of Stephen Shore, An My Lee, and Barbara Ess. Her work blends elements of digital and analog photography and explores the limits and possibilities of photographic representation.
Alexi-Meskhishvili's photographs often undergo a process of manipulation by hand or through digital means, or a combination of both. The resulting images can be straight snapshots or intricately staged photographs, and are often multilayered and experimental. Her approach to photography is highly intuitive, yet is underpinned by a conceptual logic that seeks to choreograph and stage not just surfaces, but the conditions of photographic representation.
Her recent solo exhibitions include 'Hollow Body' at Andrea Rosen Gallery in New York, and Kölnischer Kunstverein in Cologne, as well as 'I Move Forward, I Protozoan, Pure Protein' at Micky Schubert in Berlin. Her work has also been featured in group exhibitions at Sprengel Museum in Hannover, Bridget Donahue in New York, FRAC Haute-Normandie in Sotteville-lès-Rouen, France, Kunstverein Hannover in Hannover, Casey Kaplan in New York City, and the New Museum in New York for the 2015 New Museum Triennial, among others.
